Recipes: Aromatherapy for Relief

The following are some basic Aromatherapy remedies for common health complaints.
If pain persists, please consult your physician.

Abrasions:

Clean the area with five drops of Lavender diluted in a bowl of warm water.
Apply one neat drop of lavender and allow to heal.

Bleeding:

Apply a compress to a bleeding wound comprising one drop of Geranium, Lemon and Chamomile.

Blisters (from burns and scalds):

Put one neat drop of Lavender oil on to the sealed blister and then place an ice cube on the area for at least 10 minutes. Cover with a piece of dry, clean gauze and repeat process up to three times a day.

Bruises:

Make up bowls of hot and cold water, and add to both two drops of Lavender, three drops of Rosemary, and one drop of Geranium.

Burns:

Apply ice-cold water for at least 10 minutes. Then place two drops of neat Lavender oil directly on to the burn. Place five drops of Lavender on a dry, cold compress and cover the area. Repeat process as often as required.

Common Cold:

Run a hot bath and add two drops of Thyme, two drops of Teat Tree, one drop of Eucalyptus, and three drops of Lemon. Lie back and inhale.

For steam inhalation, use one drop of Thyme, Tea Tree, Lavender and Clove.

Flu:

Run a warm bath and add five drops of Tea Tree, two drops of Lavender and two drops of Thyme. Then massage your whole body with two drops of Tea Tree and three drops of Eucalyptus diluted in one teaspoon of vegetable oil, and go to bed.

Also make a special drink by combining one drop of Clove and two drops of Lavender and use one drop and add a teaspoon of honey to a cup of hot water.

Headache:

For general headaches, massage around the temples and the base of the skull, along the hairline, with one neat drop of Lavender and Peppermint, then blend with three drops of vegetable oil three drops of Lavender and one drop of Peppermint.

Palpitations:

Place two drops of Lavender, one drop of Chamomile and two drops of Geranium on a tissue and inhale.

Massage over the whole body regularly every night with 10 drops of Lavender, 10 drops of Chamomile, three drops of Rosemary and seven drops of Lemon diluted in 30 ml of vegetable oil.

And before going to bed, take a warm bath with two drops of both chamomile and lemon oil.

Stress:

For an evening bath to relieve overworked muscles, add three drops of Lavender, two drops of Marjoram and one drop of Rosemary.

For a bath to assist relaxation and promote sleep, add four drops of Lavender and two drops of Bergamot.
